Happy November!
The holiday season is officially upon us. I’m a huge Christmas nut, but we can’t let Thanksgiving slide by without notice. Before we gather around our Christmas tree, gather up these Thanksgiving books to talk about the day and count up all the things we have to be thankful for.

The Berenstain Bears Give Thanks – Jan & Mike Berenstain
Another preschooler reading list and another Berenstain Bears book. Seriously, I love this bear family! In this seasonal favorite, you can go along with brother and sister as they learn about the first Thanksgiving by putting on their own play. As always, the Bear family explains it all in a simple way and adds in a great message for your family.

Bear Says Thanks – Karma Wilson
Bear has a big dinner with all his friends and learns a lesson in friendship and being thankful. When your children fall in love with this bear they can join him in many other adventures in this series.

Thanksgiving is for Giving Thanks – Margaret Sutherland
This is the perfect book for young readers to learn about giving thanks for all they have. Sweet illustrations and simple text explain being thankful for things that you have in your life like your family. This is a really basic book and perfect to start with.

Little Critter: Just a Special Thanksgiving – Mercer Mayer
Celebrate with Little Critter as they all give thanks with a Thanksgiving play and a special feast for all the critters. You can’t go wrong with this series either. The storylines are always really relatable for children, and my girls love looking for the mouse and spider on every page too.

10 Fat Turkeys – Tony Johnston
Holiday books are always fun, but why not sneak in a little learning too? These turkeys are a cute and fun way to work on counting backwards from ten. It’s a fun book to read aloud with lots of silly sounds, and a great chance to work on your gobble!

T is for Turkey – Tanya Lee Stone
We already got some counting in so why not throw in some holiday ABC’s? This story breaks down Thanksgiving in short, fun rhymes and covers all things Thanksgiving from pilgrims to turkey.

Pete the Cat: The First Thanksgiving – James Dean
What two things do preschoolers love? Pete the Cat and a flap book! This interactive flap book will teach children all about Thanksgiving with a familiar character. Of course, you can join Pete on many other adventures.

There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Turkey – Lucille Colandro
Such a cute and funny series that preschoolers will love! This one is a great read aloud, and your kids will love trying to guess what is going to get swallowed up next and why. The first time we read this one my four-year old was hooked and immediately asked to read it again.

The Berenstain Bears: Thanksgiving All Around – Mike Berestain
An interactive lift a flap format that kids will love. Explore along with the whole Bear family as they explore all things Thanksgiving. This one is another great addition to the Berenstain Bear collection.
The Night Before Thanksgiving – Natasha Wing
Super sweet illustrations will familiarize kids with the basic traditions of Thanksgiving. It gives a fun spin on a classic where visions of drumsticks dance in your head.
So there you have it, my list of Thanksgiving books to share with your kiddos. Do you know the best part of this list? It causes us adults to slow down and look at what we’re thankful for as we teach our kids to do the same. Chances are, your biggest blessings will be snuggled right next to you.
I wish your entire family a very Happy Thanksgiving!
This is a fun list! A few we’ve read and a few we haven’t seen before. Thanks for the recommendations!
Thanks Mykee! Have a happy Thanksgiving!!
